There are holdouts in life, this is to be expected. There are also a huge amount of misconceptions, lack of understandings and ignorance that falsely affirm and back those who misjudge others; look at politics and religion as prime examples. These groups form boundaries, isolate and segregate themselves from others creating a we are different than you, our belief system is stronger and more prudent than yours-we know what is right, and you are not part of it. Enter class elitism.
Then there are those that have been on that side but have chosen to open their eyes to other people's beliefs and decisions, wants and desires. They may not agree to see eye to eye with their neighbor, but they now have an appreciation of what the ''other side'' can do and offer (i.e. broaden each others' perspectives). A great example of this can be found in Seth's trip to Taos in his three part story.
These parties have responsibilities in guiding their people away from miss truths . A huge part of this is to de-phantom myths, in our case the myths that snowboarders cannot hike, hike to ride pow (are you kidding me?!-check the below Alta Racist video), integrate with skiers (despite the fact that 99% of all other resorts worldwide seem to have no issues with cohabitation), add to this the vast majority of us are not reckless; we want the same as you do, a safe and fun place to share the mountains with our families.
Alta it's time for you to open your eyes up, like Park City, like Snowbird and like Taos have done. We can do everything you can do and more or is this what you are afraid of-you may laugh at this but every skier in every ski flick bites off of skateboarding and snowboarding's trick bags, how we dress, you have even widened your ski waists and added rocker to your skis-your welcome. So, are we really that different after all?
Below are three videos, the first is from Alta management and their views of snowboarding on their mountain (despite the property being on public land), the second is a video of some snowboarders who pouched the resort a few years back and how-although one or two skiers were taken aback-were cool and commingled with each other and the final video is of Chris Coulter, the Provo Bros. and Co. dispelling the myths that we cannot hike in pow, nor ride Alta's (across the road) ''back country terrain'' (and a note to the folks at Alta marketing, ease up on that term guys; the public land that the resort sits on are not that gnarly).
