Day Trip

Sawtooth Mountains - Idaho

When:
Sun, 05/16/2010
Where:
Sawtooth Mountains
The riding was:
worthy of Johan and Jonaven.

Pouch and I headed into the Sawtooth wilderness to get some late season riding in. Hiked in about 4 miles and 1.5 g to get to snowline, then used our marvelous splitboards to ascended the remaining 2g to the zone the next morning. Ended up bootpacking up the coular about an hour too late, consequently we only made it about halfway up before turning around due to avy danger.

All in all an epic trip though...

The One Run Wonder

Sorry for the lateness of this ride report. Work is starting to take over my time, which means summer is around the corner and for some reason it hurts more this year then any other! I am not sure why that is maybe because this winter I worked really hard to get my turns. When I worked for the Canyons in Park City I got a lot of riding in and was a little burnt out on it at the end of the season, therefor the arrival of summer didn't hurt as much. Plus we had a lot of great Skateparks there. Last winter, my first in AK, was pretty shitty. I mean I got some riding in but I just wasn't as committed as I should have been. This year I was ready to make some essential changes. Trying out splitboarding was the best thing I have done in my life.

47'' inch Blower Storm Hammers Utah

When:
Wed, 04/07/2010
Where:
The Canyons
The riding was:
bluebird and a foot fresh. I just want to quit my job.

After the big storm that lasted three days and ended on April 6th, the temps began to warm and the pow settled giving us a nice hot pow session.

I brought my camera and tried my best to capture some of the riding. Unfortunately, my lack of camera skills are dizzying at best. I was able to get some mellow South facing cruiser shots through the woods.

All in all it was a fun day of riding solo-something I have been needing for a long time. Good music in the ears while slashing my way through the woods and hitting a few log jibs all the way down to Dream Scape to hit-up the BBQ for a beer and burger under bluebird conditions. Not looking forward to the summer.

Early April 18'' Pow Storm!

When:
Thu, 04/01/2010
Where:
The Canyons
The riding was:
all about slashing banks and hitting mysto tree spots.

After landing in Valdez, our crew received news that we missed perhaps the only last big spring storm. As I have mentioned before, Utah has had one of its most grim seasons in what I can remember. We have been devoid of our normal (and spoiled) snow count and our avy conditions have been dangerously high almost all season making us all starved for pow.

Beginning April 1st, our boy Jay was able to capture the outside ring of this massive low pressure. The storm continued with intensity and dumped more than 50 much needed inches.

Enjoy the video while the temperatures warm.

It was hot and beautiful. I rode horrible and filmed even worse, though I did capture a dude snowboarding in khaki shorts, a long sleeve RL button down tucked into said shorts, topped off with a dress leather belt. Win. The beer was good as well.

Not many days left now...

We'll be lucky to get 2 more weekends, particularly because it's going to be about 75 over this weekend. The usual sidehits are drying up (or out?), but there was still some fun stuff to do. 2 hours is about enough to lap everything that's open a couple of times.

Minishred filming kept me entertained though, video is here:
